Hang Gliding Courses

Welcome to Extreme Air Queenstown Hang Gliding School.

Extreme Air Queenstown hang gliding school is based in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Learn how to fly in Queenstown with New Zealand’s most experienced female hang gliding instructors and her experienced team. We provide lessons & courses in Queenstown, from intro day course courses right through to full pilot licence courses and more. We operate out of the Flight Park landing zone at the bottom of Coronet Peak ski field in Queenstown.

For many people, hang gliding is not just a sport, but a way of life. Once you become a pilot you will never again go anywhere without considering the potential flying. Whether you just want to experience hang gliding once or would like to learn how to fly.

Extreme Air offer certified NZHGPA instructional courses with an enthusiastic and a professional approach to hang gliding. The basics of hang gliding are relatively simple. Most students attain their solo rating (Novice) by training for just five hours a day, for ten days. We operate from the Flight Park in Queenstown. This provides an ideal setting, allowing the student pilot to progress gradually.

Try our introductory course which runs over two days, or complete a full 10 day course and earn your novice hang gliding rating. The course will commence with your first days on flat ground or on small training slopes, where you will learn basic techniques used to control the hang glider. We will cover important theory about hang gliding and you will gain a basic understanding of the weather.

On the training hills, you will do lots of repetition flights and ground skimming solo flights, followed by higher flights as you gaim the skills and confidence. You will be under the close supervision of two instructors. We use radios on all our training flights.

Further flights are repeated until the student is fully confident and comfortable with all necessary aspects of flying a hang glider. To gain your Novice hang gliding license, you will need to demonstrate to your instructors that you are competent in all theory and practical procedures as set out by the NZHGPA.

Our courses go far beyond the minimum requirements – When you are signed off with a novice licence through Extreme Air, you will have the skills and a competent level needed to fly safely.

At Extreme Air we are more than just a school. We really want to get people into this great sport and shair our passion for free flight. We will support you all the way through your flying career.

Hang gliding is a  weather dependent sport and students will learn at different speeds. Its best to set aside extra days. Most students like to hang out and fly with us after they have finished the course, as there is so much more to learn and this is just the begining of a great adventure.
